Andromeda paid the price for her mother’s vanity. Chained to a rock by the sea, offered up to calm Poseidon, alone and exposed while the monster closes in. This song stays right there, in that moment of terror, before the rescue arrives.
There’s just one real astronomy clue hidden in the lyrics, but it comes back again and again in different words. It has to do with something that shares her name and a strangely similar fate: something distant, enormous, and bound to collide with something much bigger, sooner or later.
Lyrics
(Cold… so cold)
(Stripped of everything…)
A bitter northern breath cuts through the air,
The tide reflects my ghost in dark despair.
Stripped of my crown, exposed upon the stone,
My fate is carved in salt and naked bone.
I screamed their names, the silence made them blind:
My father fled, my lover left my tears behind. (they walked away)
The ancient stars look down with frozen eyes,
Is this the final breath beneath the skies?
Bare skin defenseless as the iron bites in,
Where water ends and nightmares now begin… (now begin!)
Chained to the sea, waiting for the jaw to bite!
The silver moon is blind, she will not fight! (save me, save me)
The black waves roar, the winds are tearing high,
And in the rising foam, my hopes will die!
Far on the rim, a flash of fleeting light,
A savior’s blade, or madness of the night? (just a mirage?)
Two million light-years drift across my head,
A cosmic spiral watching from the dead.
A trillion burning suns will hold my plea,
Bound to collide through dark eternity! (colliding skies…)
Chained to the sea, waiting for the jaw to bite!
The silver moon is blind, she will not fight! (she will not fight)
The black waves roar, the winds are tearing high,
And in the rising foam, my hopes will die!
A timeless nebula of ash and grace,
An island universe lost out in space…
Naked and bound, but they will see my mark:
A restless spiral bleeding in the dark!
(Hear me scream!)
(Take me!)
Two million lights…
Two trillion stars…
Cold bare flesh against the deep.
(Swallowed by the sea)
Like every Astronomika Beats song, this one hides a real astronomical clue. If you already caught it, tell us in the comments what you found. If not, give it another listen.
