4- Wings up high (Pegasus)

Cover art for the song Wings up High (Pegasus), Astronomika Beats, Greek mythology of Pegasus
Behind the Song

Something beautiful was born from Medusa’s severed neck: a winged horse that launched straight into the sky without looking back. This song follows that first flight, the exact moment Pegasus leaves the cave and becomes legend.

This is the song with the most real astronomy clues hidden so far on the album. There’s a whole shape marked out by four stars, one of them borrowed from another story you already know. There’s another that marks the horse’s nose. And there are two more distant objects: one was the first of its kind ever discovered orbiting a star like our own, and the other is a swarm of ancient stars that’s been circling up there for billions of years.

Lyrics

Intro

(Yeah, let it fly)

Verse 1

Through the cavern of stone, the hero walked alone,
Holding up the mirror shield where mortal fear was shown.
Medusa in the shadows, serpents hissing in her hair,
He swung the bronze blade swiftly through the heavy poisoned air! (struck her down)

Pre-Chorus

The serpent queen collapsed, the ancient curse was done,
Yet from the severed neck arose a marvel to the sun!
A beast with silver feathers breaking free into the light,
Pegasus unfolded wings and climbed into the height! (took to flight!)

Chorus

Look at Pegasus ride! He’s never coming down,
Spreading silver wings above the quiet sleeping town! (in the sky!)
Carved in starlight, leaving all the dust behind,
The wildest constellation that the wandering eye can find! (soaring high!)

Verse 2

Look up toward the zenith where four bright beacons reign,
The Great Square of Pegasus across the stellar plain!
Alpheratz at the corner, where the chained maiden lies,
And orange Enif marks the nose that navigates the skies! (burns so bright)

Bridge

Out beyond the bridle, where the faint suns drift along,
Fifty-One Pegasi is humming with a planetary song! (distant world!)
First strange new world discovered in the deep,
While ancient Messier fifteen never falls asleep!
A swarm of ancient fires burning proud inside the crown,
A winged immortal steed that never touches down!
(Never coming down!)
(Up into the blue!)

Chorus

Look at Pegasus ride! He’s never coming down,
Spreading silver wings above the quiet sleeping town! (in the sky!)
Carved in starlight, leaving all the dust behind,
The wildest constellation that the wandering eye can find! (soaring high!)

Outro

Free from the cave of shadows…
Into the great wide blue.
(Fifty-One Pegasi)
(Alpheratz shining through)

Never coming down.

Like every Astronomika Beats song, this one hides more than one astronomical clue. If you already caught them, tell us in the comments what you found. If not, give it another listen.
